A Career in Business Services or Audit

  • We are currently seeking students who are interested in joining our Business Services and Audit teams. At BDO, we understand the importance of balancing work and study, which is why our Undergraduate program is designed with flexibility in mind, offering students the opportunity to work while they complete their studies.
  • We believe in creating a supportive environment where students can grow and develop as both students and professionals and our commitment to your success extends beyond your graduation.
  • As an Undergraduate in Business Services, your career development journey will start within our Business Accounting (Bookkeeping) team helping you to build a strong foundation for career progression within Business Services. You will gain a solid understanding in payroll, superannuation, GST, data entry, financial reporting and ATO deadlines whilst receiving software exposure, training and certification in systems such as MYOB and Xero. Upon completion of your university degree, you will transition into a Graduate role where your career will then progress to developing taxation and business advisory expertise.  These skills will be developed through on the job training within our supportive Business Services team environment as well as formal structured learning support.
  • As an Undergraduate in Audit, you will get involved in real client work from the beginning of your career, supported by our experienced team every step of the way. You will spend most of your time at the client’s premises building an understanding of the client’s business, identifying potential risks and analysing information to provide the client and their stakeholders  a level of assurance on the financial statements. You will be supported in your career development with a formal structured training program and on the job coaching.

About You | We welcome students who

  • Are currently studying a relevant qualification such as a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) or a Bachelor of Commence
  • Will be eligible for CA/CPA postgraduate study
  • Can confidently communicate and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
  • Are a dynamic team player
  • Have high levels of attention to detail
  • Are professional, organised, proactive and eager to learn
  • Possess strong IT skills as well as willing and able to learn new technologies

Pros and cons of working at BDO Australia

Pros

  • The culture in and out of the office is great.

  • My colleagues are always willing to get out of their way to help me.

  • Great opportunity to learn. People are nice and not getting annoyed when I ask questions.

  • Never any pressure to stay late.

  • The training is great, I have learned a lot in my time here.

Cons

    • Pay is relatively low, however this is industry-wide.

    • The graduate program doesn't rotate us through all the service lines.

    • Some managers are great and give constructive feedback. Others do not provide you with proper instructions.

    • Dishwashers are small... toilets are not flushed... desk are most of the time dirty.

    • Could include more women, however this is the industry.
