Are you ready to be a big part of something big?

At carsales, we're all about making buying and selling a great experience. For 25 years we’ve been evolving with the new economy to help people choose how they move today and tomorrow.

When it comes to your career, we want to provide big opportunities to help you make a big impact. But for this to be possible, we strive to feel small. Small enough to quickly change tack, small enough to learn from different departments and small enough to connect authentically with leadership.

Not something you’d expect from one of the country’s biggest tech companies, is it?

And one of the best parts? We give you the autonomy to choose the working location that best suits your lifestyle – Office, Hybrid or Anywhere.

What’s on offer:

A permanent role in a place where you can move your career forward, where you’ll be continuously backed to make new ideas happen, and the chance to do work that makes real, significant impact in the world.

We’re proud to be recognised as one of Australia’s Best Workplaces™ by Great Place to Work®, an AFR BOSS Best Place to Work, a Family Friendly Workplace, and WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality.

The support of a highly engaged, high-performing team including a leadership team that you’ll actually have face time with.

22 weeks paid parental leave for primary caregivers, four weeks paid secondary caregivers leave, six weeks paid gender affirming care leave.

Regular Hackathons, endless learning and development opportunities, and a range of activities that will help support your mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing.

What you’ll do:

  • Commencing in February 2025, you’ll join our Data team and start developing your digital career by growing your capabilities across multiple areas of specialty including, but not limited to Data Science, Data Engineering and Data Analytics & Insights.
  • You will have the chance to work on projects that really matter to our business, and we'll surround you with a support crew of motivated and creative people who are invested in providing you with big opportunities to help you make a big impact.
  • To set you up for success you’ll begin by completing planned six-month rotations with different squads across the business. You’ll get the opportunity to really understand how our Data teams create and deliver products that make buying and selling a great experience for our customers.
  • Upon completion of these rotations, you’ll be placed into a permanent home with one of our teams.
  • There will be lots of laughs along the way too - whether it's participating in our Hackathons, our endless learning & development opportunities, our wellbeing initiatives, or simply sending amusing GIFs to one another via Slack!

What are we looking for?

  • Inclusive and interpersonal attributes that connect with our behaviours (we change the game, we own it, we step in, we are curious, we don’t take ourselves too seriously)
  • Final year students (to graduate by end of 2024) or recent graduates (no later than 2023) with Data, IT, Computer Science, Software Degrees majoring in Data that are interested in working across Data Engineering, Data Science and Data Analytics and Insights.
  • Motivation to grow your career in Data to become a Data professional.
  • A demonstrated interest in Data and putting this to practical application in your career.
  • A true passion for learning and growth - we want you to be excited about learning our tech stack, the languages that we code in and how to work in an agile environment with the latest technologies.

My role has grown as my experience has grown, I'm continuously encouraged by my team lead to make sure I'm being challenged and growing. I sit in the data team and switch predominantly between helping ensure our tracking across the business is stable and consistent, and with helping to create and extend our data pipelines to make data available for the entire company.

Pros and cons of working at carsales

Pros

  • Great Culture (fun, relaxed, enjoyable). Approachable Management Growth opportunities.

  • The supportive and motivating culture

  • The work culture and ability to have a real impact on how the business operates (working on solutions that positively impact stakeholders).

  • Everyone is so supportive and passionate about what they do! Everyone loves to help, no one has ever made me feel silly for asking a question or not understanding.

  • A lot of exposure to different areas and teams in the business, can work with a lot of technologies and the culture here is amazing!

Cons

    • Not having as much flexibility in having rest days. For example, many other companies are allowing employees to take a rest day each month, while others are allowing staff to take off a day every week or fortnight. This would help individuals with family commitments or just getting things done (e.g. servicing car, appointments, etc.).

    • Sometimes, things are a little bit slow as there are a lot of things that go through higher ups.
