Recruitment Intern at Fuse Recruitment

Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Human Resource Management at Deakin University

As a Recruitment Intern at Fuse Recruitment, I’ve had the opportunity to dive into the fast-paced world of recruitment.

What's your job about?

As a Recruitment Intern, my role revolves around assisting with hiring for the manufacturing department. On a daily basis, I’m involved in tasks like conducting prescreens and screenings, following up on marketing enquiries, and performing reference checks for candidates. In addition to using Bullhorn, our internal system, I also reach out to candidates on platforms like LinkedIn and Seek to ensure we find the best talent. My job is all about connecting people with the right opportunities and supporting them throughout the recruitment process.

What's your background?

I’m originally from India and am now studying in Australia at Deakin University. I’m working toward a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in HRM, which has given me a strong foundation in understanding business and people management. This internship has helped solidify my interest in recruitment as my favourite aspect of HR. So far, I’ve made 5-6 successful placements during my time at Fuse, and each one has been an exciting learning experience.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Yes, someone with a different background could do this job. While my studies in HR have been helpful, recruitment is largely about people skills, time management, and the ability to multitask. If you’re comfortable talking to candidates, asking the right questions, and staying organised, you could thrive in this role, regardless of your specific academic background.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

The best part of my job is seeing candidates I’ve worked with get placed in roles where they’ll thrive. Knowing I’ve helped someone move forward in their career is extremely rewarding. Recruitment is about more than just filling positions—it’s about making meaningful connections between people and opportunities. Being able to help facilitate those connections and seeing it all come together is definitely the highlight of my work.

What are the limitations of your job?

The biggest challenge in my role is managing time effectively. Recruitment involves handling multiple tasks at the same time—pre-screens, candidate follow-ups, marketing enquiries, and reference checks. Juggling all these responsibilities can be tricky, especially when deadlines are tight. While the role isn’t physically demanding, it does require good multitasking skills and staying organised to keep everything.
