What are your thoughts on pay and bonuses at your company?
Very good for Australia, comparatively low compared to international jurisdictions (US, UK, Singapore).
Graduate, Sydney - 12 Sep 2024
The pay and bonuses consistently surpass my expectations. You will be very well rewarded for working hard and the pay jumps from year to year are impressive. You can really only do better by going to the UK or US.
Lawyer, Sydney - 11 Sep 2024
Generally happy but does seem to be constrained by certain policies (e.g no promotion to mids for a year)
Junior, Sydney - 11 Sep 2024
I think we are paid well, however, I think our bonus culture and policy in Perth is laughable. To even be eligible for a bonus you have to be over your target billable hours. Despite actual billables not being within control of the lawyer. You may have a period where the partners are not particularly busy and you have a lower billing month (which is common) then you are in a continual catch up to hit your rate. These ebbs and flows mean one month you may be extremely over-worked but when averaged out, that is not reflected. In addition, the payment amount of bonus' were far less than I anticipated. The risk the firm runs with this is that a bonus should be an incentive to work hard and if it does not correlate with your effort, it may be a disincentive to put in the effort. The bonus should reflect your overtime multiplied by your billable rate minus a reasonable deduction. Compared to our peer industries such as banking or corporate finance, our bonus' are negligible. In respect of pay, it is so opaque that its hard to form a view. It would be nice to have complete transparency, but that will never happen.

The pay is generally pretty good
4 PQE, Sydney - 02 Sep 2024
They are very generous and fair
Graduate, Sydney - 30 Aug 2024
Pay is very good, top of market, and bonuses are generous.
Mid-level lawyer, Perth - 29 Aug 2024
Salary is high compared to my peers. Bonus is dependant on which practice you work in and the type of work you do. There is a high expectation of working very long hours in order to meet the bonus requirement. The level of bonus is not commensurate with the amount of work required to achieve it.
Mid Lawyer, Sydney - 28 Aug 2024
Top of the market - can't complain.
Lawyer, Melbourne - 28 Aug 2024
Top of the market.
Graduate, Melbourne - 09 Nov 2023
I believe that pay and bonuses at my company are aligned to the top of the market at the graduate level, however I have little understanding of the pay progression beyond the graduate program.
Graduate, Sydney - 06 Nov 2023
Very generous!
Graduate, Sydney - 30 Oct 2023

Junior Lawyer, Sydney - 26 Oct 2023
I am unsure if graduates are eligible for bonuses.

What are your company's best or most unusual perks? For example: free tickets, free dinners, moving expenses, taxis, pension, etc.
I've been to the Australian Open with clients to see Novak Djokovic play which was a dream come true. Others in my team also got to go to the Taylor Swift concert! Other than that there are the usual perks like firm dinners every night, ubers home, firm social events, corporate cards etc.
Lawyer, Sydney - 11 Sep 2024
Uber eats up to $30 when working past 7.30 and ubers home after 8
Junior, Sydney - 11 Sep 2024
Ubers and meals for after hours
lawyer, Melbourne - 11 Sep 2024
The best perks would have to be the Tuesday and Thursday lunches. It saves significant time and money for not having to meal prep those days or purchase food. Ubers home after 7pm is also a great perk but that has become industry standard. It would be nice to have greater benefits like those of US and UK law firms (ie. private health insurance covered, gym memberships paid for). I think in that regard we fall behind. Mental and physical health is of such importance, especially in this industry and I think it would be extremely beneficial for the firm to recognise that.
Lawyer, Perth - 09 Sep 2024
We get access to several discounts. The most useful is the Uber home from work when you work past 8pm
Graduate, Sydney - 30 Aug 2024
Free breakfast Monday, free lunch Tuesday and Thursday, Ubers home after 7pm.
Mid-level lawyer, Perth - 29 Aug 2024

Mid Lawyer, Sydney - 28 Aug 2024
After hours meals and Ubers policy is OK. Can buy extra leave (2 weeks) which is great.
Lawyer, Melbourne - 28 Aug 2024
Free dinners, snacks, interstate travel, private health partnerships, bonuses, and Christmas presents.
Graduate, Melbourne - 09 Nov 2023
Unsure
Graduate, Sydney - 30 Oct 2023
There aren't many "unusual perks". In general these could be improved. Best - Ubers, dinners and team dinners (practice group specific)
Junior Lawyer, Sydney - 26 Oct 2023
Ubers home after 8pm, free dinner if working after 7:30pm, Ubers home from firm events, significant parental leave policies.
Graduate, Sydney - 26 Oct 2023
events, free lunch twice a week, sidebar with seniors and lots of other benefits. It would be good if we can order Uber food 30 minutes earlier then the policy time so that when you ordered it arrives when you are working as sometimes restaurants are closed in the City or you end up not ordering food as it is too late.
Graduate, Perth - 25 Oct 2023
