Please describe the interview process and assessments.
At the time I joined it was a one stage interview with a Partner and a member from People & Culture
Graduate, Brisbane - 23 Aug 2024
I submitted an online application comprised of a CV and cover letter. The interview stage consisted of two interviews with an HR member and a senior associate/partner.
Graduate, Sydney - 23 Aug 2024
The recruitment process for clerkships stood out from other firms - Hall & Wilcox H really 'walked the walk' when it came to not just hiring people based on their background and what university they went to. The interview process was very friendly and open. It was good that there was none of that ridiculous psychometric testing either.
Graduate, Melbourne - 23 Aug 2024
Interview process was great, my interviewers were lovely and truly represented the great culture and people at the firm. I felt the 'assessments' were fair and loved the 'blind recruitment'.
Graduate, Perth - 01 Aug 2024
It was quite standard procedure, I enjoyed the interview as it was more a discussion and conversation which took some stress out of it.
Graduate, Sydney - 31 Jul 2024
this is testing my memory, but I had to complete an online questionnaire, cover letter, and face to face interview. There were no 'assessments', but I have experienced those with other firms.
Graduate, Melbourne - 31 Jul 2024
The interview was conducted by one person from HR and one senior lawyer. There were no assessments.
Graduate, Perth - 30 Jul 2024
Apply for clerkship, attend networking breakfast and interview, receive clerkship offer, complete clerkship, receive graduate offer, commence as graduate
Graduate, Perth - 30 Jul 2024
It was 2 two hour interviews and a written application. No assessments required. I really appreciated this aspect of the recruitment process as it felt more personal than other firms I had interviewed for. The firm genuinely wants to get to know you.
Graduate, Sydney - 30 Jul 2024
One application and one interview. Very simple
Graduate, Brisbane - 30 Jul 2024
Easy and relaxed. More interested in me as a person than my legal interests, and I feel that culture is reflected through the firm.
Graduate, Melbourne - 30 Jul 2024
Was great.
Graduate, Brisbane - 30 Jul 2024
The interview process isn't too stressful - just two interviews. No psychometric assessments!
Graduate, Sydney - 30 Jul 2024
I applied through the clerkship program: - 1x application - 1x interview - 1x networking night offers for clerkship 4 week clerkship graduate offer
Graduate, Melbourne - 30 Jul 2024
For my clerkship, paralegal and graduate position - the recruitment process was as efficient as such a process can be. Throughout all three, I have felt the focus is entirely on me as a person, not what is on the paper before those sorting through candidates. There was a personable interview at each juncture which was more focused on my activities/experiences outside of work and who I am as a person, once it was determined that I could complete what was expected of me.
Graduate, Melbourne - 15 Jul 2024
I thought it was very well structured, they knew what they are looking for and the personalities and work ethic that suits the firm.
Graduate, Melbourne - 12 Jul 2024
The process was more about understanding who I am as a person rather than what my university marks were, and I appreciated that. The application process was also blind, so any information regarding name, gender, address and where you went to school/university is blanked out to create as less a discriminatory field as possible.
Graduate, Newcastle - 11 Jul 2024
The interview process was relaxed and inviting, it gave me a great first sense of the firm.
Graduate, Melbourne - 11 Jul 2024
The interview process was quite conversational in nature, which I liked (as opposed to behavioural style interviews at other firms which can be daunting).
Graduate, Melbourne - 05 Jul 2024
In applying for the graduate program, the process was clear and structured. I felt that applicants were always made to feel valued and respected. HR also is mindful in their placements of individuals and catering to their interests and experience.
Graduate, Sydney - 04 Jul 2024

I was asked about how I would be a good fit for the firm culturally, why I chose the firm, and how I felt the firm's values resonated with me.
Graduate, Sydney - 23 Aug 2024
Questions about my strengths, weaknesses, how I would handle certain legal problems or personality clashes in the office; why I want to be a lawyer and why I want to work at Hall & Wilcox H.
Graduate, Melbourne - 23 Aug 2024
Hall & Wilcox H asked me lots of questions about me rather than being mostly work-focused, i.e.. what do you like to do in your free time, what does your personality consist of. I felt they truly cared about who I am rather than just my previous experience and grades.

I would also encourage them to find out who their interviewers will be prior to their interview and to learn a little bit about that person prior to the interview.

Developing an understanding of 'smarter law' and the need to innovate selflessly for our client's would be of great assistance. I firmly believe that people hire people, not resumes. Hall & Wilcox has a Hallmark of 'Be True'. It means coming to work and not being afraid of who you are. Have the courage to turn up to your interview and be passionate about something, particularly if you have any area of law which you are fiercely interested in. Hall & Wilcox is a diverse business, not just in Queensland, but across Australia. There is a home for you here, providing you bring the attitude and hunger for it.
