Application Process & Interviews at MongoDB

The interview process was superior to other companies as there were no automated rounds. Instead a recruiter or engineer was involved in every step of the interview process.

I had already interned with mongodb for 2 years prior, so there wasn't a traditional interview process for the fulltime offer. I just received an offer for the position.

You undergo a phone screening, video interview and then a final interview.

The interviews were good, we had around 4 interviews throughout to target different areas - such as technical interviews and a personality based one.

Interview process is involved but I found this valuable - you know you're the right fit for the company + culture + role, and you know they are the right fit for you. No wasted time leading to quick employee churn.

The interview process is pretty lengthy (around 5 rounds) but that is a sentiment to the companies goal of hiring the best employee to fit their culture and working environment.

I was asked a mix of previous experience, technical questions as well as behaviour questions.

For my intern interview I was asked some general problem solving questions like a sorting one, and a generate nth number of Fibonacci question.

There are two technical interviews where you are asked to code / explain code and your understanding. The other questions were around your working style and how you approach people.

* Chat about a project you have implemented * You're given a problem where you have to produce an algorithm to solve it. First provide a sub-optimal solution then optimise it. * How did you overcome a dis-agreement with a team member * What are some processes you follow to meet project deadlines

Do enough algorithms study to get through the technical rounds. Create a portfolio of personal projects to demonstrate your skills. Participate in extra curricular group activities in the field to demonstrate your ability to work in a team. Show interest in the company.

Make sure you can do critical thinking questions and explain your thought process. Have a good grasp of at least one programming language.

Be you! Everyone can learn coding assessments but not everyone can learn soft skills.

The company focuses a bit on personality and fit. They want a positive environment where everyone feels safe and likes coming into work. This is balanced with a good foundation of tech knowledge. I would say that make sure you are good at communicating, and know how to work in a team environment and can display those traits. Also have a solid foundation of coding - as long as you can explain your thought process the technical stage is not too tough.

- Be yourself. - Demonstrate your "soft" qualities as much as your technical.
