Project Officer at Queensland Government Digital Graduate Program
Master of Business Administration at Griffith University
What was the best thing about being on the Queensland Government Digital Graduate program?
I don’t want to come across as corny, but the people I have met have been the biggest highlight.
What classification did you achieve (ie. AO4 etc.) post program?
AO5 – (technically still part of the 2024 Digital Graduate Program).
Do you think the program helped to speed up your career?
Absolutely – I always wanted to transition to public service but did not know how to really sell myself in the way that government departments look for. The Digital Graduate Program helped me get my foot in the door and learn a lot of crucial skills I did not know I was missing.
What's your job about?
I am supporting a Program that maintains and upgrades the ICT infrastructure across Queensland’s health system that major clinical applications such as ieMR rely on.
What's your background?
Predominantly hospitality, however, I also worked ski resorts in Australia and Canada for a few years.
Could someone with a different background do your job?
Absolutely! I think the biggest key to success is enthusiasm and ability to take feedback on board regardless of where it comes from.
What's the coolest thing about your job?
I get to go into the guts of hospitals and see how they operate and rely on digital infrastructure from the inside out.
What are the limitations of your job?
I think there are no limitations when you have the right attitude. However, coming from a very fast-faced industry, I definitely struggled with the change of pace initially.
3 pieces of advice for yourself when you were a student...
Anything else you would like to add?
Always give it a shot and put your hand up for whatever opportunity there is, the worst that can happen is someone says no. However, you could find something you really are passionate about and find rewarding.
