Big budget to get certification in amazon, SAP, Microsoft products
Graduate, Canberra - 13 Sep 2024
The best part is being able to add to my learning somewhat, and progress in the direction I am interested in as well as doing formal training.
Graduate, Melbourne - 12 Sep 2024
There are licenses for places which provide self-paced training, but most of it is on-the-job.
APS6, Brisbane - 15 Aug 2024
Some training is a bit outdated (the font, the messaging).
Graduate, Hobart - 13 Aug 2024
Strong emphasis on the job training which I appreciate, however more formal/structured learning is often conducted via self-paced virtual courses ranging from 1-8 hours to complete. I don't find these virtual learning courses engaging and would benefit more from being in a room with an instructor in a more traditional setting.
Graduate in 2021, APS6 since April 2022, Canberra - 12 Aug 2024
I took part in the grad program. It was okay - but they removed the diploma component AFTER commencement and made help desk deployment mandatory.
former graduate. APS employee now, Adelaide - 12 Aug 2024
Lots of possible trainings available but they're not particularly educational
APS5, Adelaide - 12 Aug 2024
The training is very specific to the role that you will be undertaking. There are plenty of learning packages/presentations that are interactive and help upskill. I have learned how to do my role through them. The rest of the learning was by undertaking the role outside of the training.
Graduate, Bunbury - 07 Aug 2024
Coursera data analysis and data visualisation courses are available to me and they are excellent. I also participated in the Graduate Data Network for two years as a project lead then as the Chair. This network is not technically focused on L&D but it is the unofficial reasons myself and all members participate. It was excellent.
APS6, Wollongong - 07 Aug 2024
Training was boring and not fit for a group of highly educated university graduates.
APS5, Canberra - 07 Aug 2024
Have done some learning through Coursera which has provided me with insights to a new skill
Graduate, Melbourne - 07 Aug 2024
They just kinda sign up for Coursera and say "off you go lol" could be a lot more directed and meaningful.
Graduate, Perth - 17 Jul 2024
While you have access to things like Coursera (though licenses are limited) and free courses on APS Academy, L&D always falls by the wayside because of the amount of urgent work on hand.
Graduate, Brisbane - 08 Jul 2024
Very informal training is made available. Was promised a Diploma in Government, however AFTER starting we were informed this would not be happening - pretty disheartening as it was a primary reason for accepting the role in the first place.
Acting APS6 (Substantive APS5), Adelaide - 08 Jul 2024
Training was great, would be good if our non-web based training attendance was better flagged and sent to us when we began training in the graduate program (it was easy to lose track of what we've done and learned, when a lot of the compulsory stuff was presented to us - rather than our own directed learning)
Graduate, Canberra - 08 Jul 2024
We have a learning management system which provides job-specific and agency-wide training. There are also external course providers the agency has licences for like Coursera and SAS.
Graduate, Brisbane - 08 Jul 2024
Useful, and always improving every year. I wish we were able to have in person training when I started (for the grad program) but unfortunately that was not possible due to COVID concerns.
APS5, Sydney - 05 Jul 2024
All my official and unofficial training has been quite good and effective, the only activity I never got to engage in was job shadowing, but I do know it exists inside our agency.
Completed Graduate Degree, Canberra - 04 Jul 2024
Varies between groups. Formal facilitated training, on the job training.
Grad and experienced service officer, Toowoomba - 02 Jul 2024
The agency has an extensive learning catalogue for self-paced and facilitated learning. The facilitated learning can be difficult to attend as it is frequently booked out or prioritised for certain staff cohorts. The agency is supportive of external learning and my team will be completing external document accessibility training soon. I have also completed an Adobe creative suite external training. The agency supports mentoring and learning on the job, sometimes it can be difficult to find time for professional development within my regular role as it is so busy.
Graduate, Ballarat - 02 Jul 2024
