I have worked remotely for a year as a intern, and as a grad I can work from home whenever I want and as much as I want (as part of negotiation with my team)
Graduate, Canberra - 13 Sep 2024
I work full time 150 hrs per 4-week period. I work some shorter days and some longer days as I required flexibility for work/life balance. The agency is very flexible.
Graduate, Melbourne - 12 Sep 2024
While some area's have been great in offering flexible work arrangements, there could be improvement in terms of offering flexible work arrangements in other environments.
Graduate, Canberra - 12 Sep 2024
Very flexible. Can work flexible hours from day-to-day to suit your needs and can work from home. Sometimes need to work extra hours due to workload/understaffing and deadlines but can build flex time to take off later.
Graduate, Canberra - 30 Aug 2024
Quite flexible. Flex hours are amazing.
APS6, Brisbane - 15 Aug 2024
I like having a desk job as my sense of safety is high. However, I wish there was more room in the social work space for us to do outreach or promotion of our services. I think it is important for other services to be aware of social work within the agency.
Graduate, Hobart - 13 Aug 2024
My employer is extremely flexible, however organisational policy often defers to your direct line manager on approval flexible arrangements such as office hours. My team leader is lovely and I have had no issues requesting shorter or longer days depending on my circumstances. Full time hours is 37.5hrs a week, which I think is just under the 40hr standard in the private sector. I've never had to work unpaid overtime, and due to flexible hours I have been able to claim excess hours worked as paid time off.
Graduate in 2021, APS6 since April 2022, Canberra - 12 Aug 2024
I don't mind the hours my role requires as a full-time employee however I wish I could do more from home due to the commute taking between 1.5-2 hours each way.
former graduate. APS employee now, Adelaide - 12 Aug 2024
My supervisor is very flexible and understanding. The general flexibility of WFH and hours/days/leave is not up to scratch
APS5, Adelaide - 12 Aug 2024
Team dependant. Mostly flexible.
APS 5, Brisbane - 08 Aug 2024
Workplace is not overly flexible about what days can be taken off for part time. However with Flex there is more chances to be flexible
Graduate, Bunbury - 07 Aug 2024
I work in the office two days a week. Usually on the same days as the majority of my colleagues in the office. As in, my office colleagues. I don't actually work in the same team as anyone in my office.
APS6, Wollongong - 07 Aug 2024
Quite flexible with hours, however days working from home I would prefer more as I am coming to an office to sit at a computer (not with people) in my area.
Graduate, Melbourne - 07 Aug 2024
Pretty much work whatever hours I want so long as it comes to 76 at the end of the fortnight. WFH whenever I want. It's not bad. I needed to work less hours because of a weird conflict with my other job and it was fine.
Graduate, Perth - 17 Jul 2024
The company is somewhat flexible. It largely depends on the role.
Graduate, Brisbane - 08 Jul 2024
37.5hr work week with 7.5hr days (full-time worker). Standard work hours are between 7am and 7pm, so as long as you hit 7.5 hours you can work any time between those set times. APS6 and under have access to flex time (time in lieu), so any 'overtime' is banked and can be utilised for paid leave. I am looking into condensing my 37.5 hours to a four-day work week and increasing my working-from-home provisions from two days per week to three days per week.
Acting APS6 (Substantive APS5), Adelaide - 08 Jul 2024
The workplace is extremely flexible and I appreciate it so much, my lord
Graduate, Canberra - 08 Jul 2024
Flexible to a point--it is an unwritten rule to be in the office while your colleagues are for the most part, though this is fairly easy.
Graduate, Brisbane - 08 Jul 2024
I work an extra half hour each day to have a scheduled day off every four weeks. I enjoy this structure as it gives me structure to plan errands around. My company is very flexible when it comes to hours, allowing you to work from home and providing flex hours.
APS5, Sydney - 05 Jul 2024
I have recently moved to 2 days in the office, 3 days at home which is my preferred schedule, so I am quite happy.
Completed Graduate Degree, Canberra - 04 Jul 2024
