Get up, have a shower, and grab a quick breakfast.

05.00 AM

Let’s go! 20km to the rig, with kangaroos all over the place and a nice sunrise. We are usually two in the team, but 20 to 30 people are working on the rig, each with different tasks and responsibilities. I oversee the directional drilling task.

05.30 AM

I completed a handover with the night team to check what operations were completed and what still needs to be done. This is the time to share knowledge!

08.00 AM

After catching up with all the necessary paperwork, it's time to prep and program the logging tools we will use later.

When this is done and quality checked by our Performance Live support team in Abu Dhabi, it's time to make up the BHA (Bottom Hole Assembly). This involves assembling the tools to drill the well, and I usually end up dirty and covered in grease. Being focused and having good communication with the rig crew are the main important points when completing this essential task.

16.00 PM

We are now ready to start drilling! I have two main tasks: the first is to steer the well to be able to go in the right direction. The second one is to log the well and get some geological data from the formations we are drilling. I get this data from the logging tools I programmed before. Depending on the scope of the job this can include gamma ray, resistivity, porosity, and density information.

18.00 PM

Time to hand over the operations to the night team. It’s a 24-hour operation; the work never stops!

19.00 PM

Dinner, shower, and a bit of reading. Then it's time to sleep, as being rested is key to being safe and efficient during my shift.
