About the role:

Our Buildings Digital Practice team are accountable for pushing technology boundaries within Stantec to drive innovation and improve the way we work, every day. After an initial training period in the Melbourne office, you will have the option of working remotely if you like.

Your core project will be contributing to the development of a global web-based platform where you’ll help codify engineering designs and calculations. The work will be intellectually stimulating which is why we think it’s best suited to the brightest candidate who actively enjoys technical challenges. In this role, you’ll be expected to:

  • Contribute to code for solving, optimising and designing engineering infrastructure - pipe networks, electrical cabling etc
  • Collaborate on our UI/UX
  • Perform software testing, and propose and implement improvements

Your Support Network:

You’ll work under a Software Engineer with an engineering background who has created the platform to date. They will continue to lead the development effort alongside you - converting practitioner needs into actionable development work and feature releases. You are further supported by a complementary global team of software developers, solution architects, product managers, and other hybrid practitioners/digital roles. Ample training and mentoring will be provided as you slowly develop the skills required to contribute to the code base for successful feature releases.

About you:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Graduate with a Bachelor of Engineering, a Bachelor of Computer Science or Software Engineering who is passionate about programming and has a proven background in mathematics and physics.

Pros and cons of working at Stantec Australia

Pros

  • The best things about working at my company are the culture and the level of support that I receive from colleagues, and the Graduate program that Stantec offers.

  • Working at Stantec provides me with various opportunities to learn and grow with multidisciplinary teams.

  • The culture in the office is inclusive and diverse. There are many cultural events held in the office, building a great base for staff to have fun and be social.

  • Good team; I like the work that I do, and I have reasonable working hours as a grad, absorbing a lot of experience and knowledge early in my career.

  • It is not just about finishing the workload at the end of the day but also focusing on other development such as leadership and public speaking by joining DPG and Toastmasters.

Cons

    • The situation of my team overall is not good, and they have limited work to provide to graduates.

    • WFH culture has gotten more inflexible. And the associated annoyance of working in consultancy is filling out timesheets

    • Lack of recognition for work that I do and being overlooked for opportunities that other grads get.

    • I would like to work on different disciplines. For example, someone from the transport team working with the traffic or Geotech people to do some of their day-to-day work.

    • The salary for this position is ok but not ideal, especially if you are living in a big city like Sydney.
