We are currently seeking a Graduate Environmental Scientist/Planner to join our Environmental Services Group in Queensland. This full-time role will see you work on environmental site assessments, desk-top and site investigations, environmental approvals as well as sustainability-related work. The role can be based at either of our offices in Brisbane, Gold Coast or the Sunshine Coast.

Day-to-day tasks would involve:

  • Prepare environmental management plans and environmental assessments.
  • Participate in field environmental investigations and site inspections.
  • Work on environmental approvals documentation.
  • Provide technical input on environmental constraints and approvals in large multidisciplinary project teams, with the support of senior team members.
  • Develop and apply knowledge of environmental legislation, policy and industry best practices.

About you

This full-time position would suit a recent graduate or student completing their degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Geographic Information Systems or a related field.

To be successful you will have:

  • previous work experience involving either completion of an internship within the field of environmental assessment and remediation and/or contaminated land assessment, or casual work experience in other sectors during your graduate years.
  • Demonstrable analytical, reporting and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound understanding and appreciation of current and future growth trends in the environmental and sustainability sectors
  • A client service focus with strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively in team environments.
  • Valid/ current driver’s licence.

Pros

  • The best things about working at my company are the culture and the level of support that I receive from colleagues, and the Graduate program that Stantec offers.

  • Working at Stantec provides me with various opportunities to learn and grow with multidisciplinary teams.

  • The culture in the office is inclusive and diverse. There are many cultural events held in the office, building a great base for staff to have fun and be social.

  • Good team; I like the work that I do, and I have reasonable working hours as a grad, absorbing a lot of experience and knowledge early in my career.

  • It is not just about finishing the workload at the end of the day but also focusing on other development such as leadership and public speaking by joining DPG and Toastmasters.

Cons

    • The situation of my team overall is not good, and they have limited work to provide to graduates.

    • WFH culture has gotten more inflexible. And the associated annoyance of working in consultancy is filling out timesheets

    • Lack of recognition for work that I do and being overlooked for opportunities that other grads get.

    • I would like to work on different disciplines. For example, someone from the transport team working with the traffic or Geotech people to do some of their day-to-day work.

    • The salary for this position is ok but not ideal, especially if you are living in a big city like Sydney.
