If delivering meaningful work for communities is your passion, you should start your professional career journey with us.

Who is Stantec and why choose us?

As one of the world’s top engineering and environment firms and a global leader, our 31,000 strong team of engineers, scientists and qualified professionals have a long-proven record of developing, designing, and implementing innovative and sustainable solutions across a diverse range of exciting local, national, and international projects. Communities are fundamental. Whether around the corner or across the globe, they provide a foundation, a sense of place and of belonging. That's why at Stantec, we always design with the community in mind.

As an undergrad at Stantec, you will have many opportunities available to you, including:

  • Opportunity to work while you study! Casual on-demand work across the business that is flexible to your study workload.
  • Be part of a global organisation with access to global industry leaders and work on leading-edge projects.
  • Get exposed to unique mentoring, technical support and encouragement

With us, not only will you work as part of an inclusive, collaborative, and diverse team, but also be able to develop your skills and knowledge in designing the future of engineering and shape your own career along the journey.

What does an intern do?

It depends on the team you are in, but your day-to-day tasks could include:

  • Supporting the projects through assisting with planning, technical solutions, coordination and report writing
  • Using your project management skills
  • Working with a team of talented professionals on a variety of multidisciplinary projects
  • Developing your capabilities & technical skills

We ideally look to hire interns that want to enter our Graduate Program upon the completion of their studies.

You will be working towards an undergraduate qualification in Mechanical, Structural, Civil, Chemical, Science, Mechatronics, Audio, Acoustics, Fire, Electrical, Environmental, Geotechnical, Transport, Asset Management, Sustainability, Urban Planning and show us your passion! We want to know who you are as a person, your attributes and what makes you tick.

You will be committed to improving the world we live in, seize the environmental challenges that we all face and come up with solutions that will benefit generations to come. As a graduate, you will be driven to achieve, have demonstrated personal leadership qualities and thrive in an environment where you are challenged and expected to learn, grow, and drive the future of our client service, technical delivery, and project outcomes.

Pros and cons of working at Stantec Australia

Pros

  • The best things about working at my company are the culture and the level of support that I receive from colleagues, and the Graduate program that Stantec offers.

  • Working at Stantec provides me with various opportunities to learn and grow with multidisciplinary teams.

  • The culture in the office is inclusive and diverse. There are many cultural events held in the office, building a great base for staff to have fun and be social.

  • Good team; I like the work that I do, and I have reasonable working hours as a grad, absorbing a lot of experience and knowledge early in my career.

  • It is not just about finishing the workload at the end of the day but also focusing on other development such as leadership and public speaking by joining DPG and Toastmasters.

Cons

    • The situation of my team overall is not good, and they have limited work to provide to graduates.

    • WFH culture has gotten more inflexible. And the associated annoyance of working in consultancy is filling out timesheets

    • Lack of recognition for work that I do and being overlooked for opportunities that other grads get.

    • I would like to work on different disciplines. For example, someone from the transport team working with the traffic or Geotech people to do some of their day-to-day work.

    • The salary for this position is ok but not ideal, especially if you are living in a big city like Sydney.
