Application Process & Interviews at Viva Energy Australia

The process was very easy and well thought out. A lot of other companies have an impersonal approach to recruitment. Viva held a webinar for company introduction and information. They had assessment centres that was relevant to our job we applied for and then we had an interview.

The interview process was great, I felt it was very reflective of the company as a whole and gave me a taste of what working at Viva would be like.

Hiring process was fast and efficient.

I have gone through several recruitment processes when I was job hunting and Viva recruitment processes by far surpasses any other process I have encountered. It did not take more than a month to end up with an offer from my initial application. It included an initial application, a phone interview, in person interview that consisted of two parts being technical assessment and behavioural interview and then just one day later an offer. I immediately accepted and declined other interviews I was invited for as the process was too slow.

The hiring process was really simple and easy to follow and the hiring managers were really pleasant to deal with

I don't know much about the interview processes for roles outside of graduate positions. For the grad program specifically, my interview was extremely long and intensive - I left feeling exhausted.

Smooth and no dilly dallying. One of the fastest process for an organisation. Applied to many graduate position, VER is very proactive.

An 'assessment day' was held in which a number of written exercises were completed involving hypothetical scenarios related to the business, followed by interviews with a 'hiring team' composed of people whom I now work with day-to-day.

Initially there was an online application, you are then invited to complete a virtual interview. Once progressed, you will participate in an in-person assessment centre and interview. I found the recruitment process to be really enjoyable, the facilitators and interviewers were very supportive and they want you to just be yourself. I really like the amount of care and effort that was put in by Viva right from the beginning of my recruitment experience.

Very straightforward and easy process. The graduate program includes the initial application with video interview and assessment centre.

Submit application. Shortlisted and invited to a 2 hour private assessment centre over Microsoft Teams with one other person who was in a different discipline of the company. Then had a 1 hour interview with my line manager and hiring officer. Received the offer within a week of completing the process.

My interview process involved submitting my resume and recording a short video answering a few questions. I was followed up with an email and call within the next month to request my presence for a in person assessment and interview. The response time from viva was exceptional for recruitment compared to other companies I had applied to that year.

The application included the submission of a 1 minute video with some prompts. The recruitment team was very welcoming over the phone. The interview was in two parts, the first being some assessments (a technical one, a prioritizing one and a creative one) and the second being an interview. After I passed the interview I had to do a fitness to work as I am at the operational site and then I was hired.

There was an assessment that went on for 2-3 hours, followed by an interview by 2 individuals.

Very simple, easy process to apply. Process is face to face rather than online or assessment centre which I prefer.

Questions about how I approached to relevant work scenarios in relation to the company core values.

A lot of give me a scenario when... you went above and beyond, solved a problem etc. I was also asked about myself and what areas I wanted to work in and why

Bit hard to remember now. Describe a time you failed and how did you respond? Basically questions on how you respond to failure/challenges, how you problem solve, how you displayed leadership, what you're looking to gain out of the graduate program, what do you know about the company. You are able to ask the interviewers questions.

How do you mitigate your way in case of conflict with a team member? Why Viva? For a graduate coming Straight from UNI, what projects they have worked? and so on

The usual interview questions about working in a team, times you've dealt with conflict etc. There were however technical questions for the engineering part of the interviews

A three hour process including an exam-like assessment on a computer followed by a two on one interview with questions relating to my resume and previous experience.

A number of "tell me about a time you demonstrated [quality x]" style questions, as well as some more specific ones going into behavioural traits etc, and a few on how you might deal with specific scenarios you might face within the business.

The questions included technical questions related to the role and behavioural questions (e.g. tell us a time when you faced a challenge)

Asked about my previous experiences both professionally and socially. Wanted examples of how I overcame challenges that I faced.

The questions were based around the company values. They were patient and helped guide you.

There were a wide array of questions such as: - What is your greatest achievement - What do you think you will be doing here in terms of work - Tell us about a time where you had to be flexible/adaptable

How would you solve problems in various situations

A large number of safety based questions and anecdotal evidence of how you react in situations. A lot was talking from previous experience. They asked if I had any questions and why I wanted to work for the company.

Learn about the company and their values and try to think about examples where you could align your past working experiences with company values.

I would recommend educating yourself on the company and what they do. Learning a little about the values as well as what the different areas of the company do. Prepare yourself to be asked lots of questions about you and present yourself the best way you can.

Do some research on the company and be able to demonstrate that you have a solid background of the business operations, culture, values and M&A activity/recent news. Demonstrate curiosity and a willingness to learn. Show how you fit in with the values and culture of the company.

Know your subject matter and prepare thoroughly by taking in mind what they are after from the job advertisement.

be sure you're up for the challenge, the job is challenging and will require you to put in the hard yards and if you're willing to put in the effort early you'll definitely be rewarded later. If you are interested in the refinery don't expect it to be a happy go lucky gig but also just know that the learning you will do and the experiences are going to be worth it

Understand the company and the role within it you see yourself fulfilling. Be honest and authentic. Be prepared to discuss your prior achievements/capabilities but do be humble. How you work with others and what you'll be like to work alongside are as important considerations as 'what you know/have done'.

It's completely understandable to be nervous going into any job interview but just remember that the team wants to see you succeed, so the best thing to do is just be yourself in the recruitment process. Also, reflect on your previous work, internship, and university experiences. It's important to use some real life examples from these experiences when you are answering interview questions.

Being a major hazard facility, there is a large focus on safety at the refinery. Come to your interview prepared with answers for a few scenarios on safety such as when you saw something unsafe/what you did to rectify it. Additionally, research the Viva Energy values and think of how you might fit into them.

Make sure your prepare early, do your research and ensure you have enough time to ask any questions. During the interview process, be your unique yourself! Recruiters want to see what unique qualities you can bring to the table.

Don't freak out too much. In the assessments, they want to see how you would act and your process to figuring it out, not necessarily whether you are 100% correct or not. The interviews are not strict and formal like an interrogation, but felt like more of a casual conversation about me and my experiences.

The main advice would be to be yourself and be genuine. If you have questions or are uncertain don't be afraid to ask.

Prepare examples, be confident and succinct and ask questions!

To learn and find the company value that you can identify with to bring that energy to work

Be confident. no need to prepare too much, as the assessment centre should be tailored to your skills. make sure you are able to highlight how your unique skillset would make a good contribution to the team.

Give yourself time to make multiple takes of the 1 minute video so you are happy with it. Research the company values and think about how you have addressed these values in projects you've worked on. Everyone is very friendly in the interview process.

It is important to understand the core values of the company, expectations in terms of safety, and what you expect from the role that you are applying for.

Investigate this company's history and legacy and what has happened during the transition from Shell to Viva and how that has affected the corporate structure of the company.

Research what Viva is all about, their culture and their business

Research the company before attending the interview, be critical with oneself before entering interview.

Read up on the company, it has a very interesting history. Overall, be yourself and show how eager you are. I did not have the best grades and have two years left in my degree, but I really wanted to work for Viva Energy. I tried to show this as much as possible in my interview and I guess it paid off.
