When on an engagement my role is often involved with note taking, summarising and theorising problems and their solutions. As well as creating documentation to support businesses through a change or a project. Every day can be different at Escient however when on a longer project, every day can be the same. The variety however is good and so pinning down your own responsibilities can be hard. When on the bench or not on an engagement, you can be pulled into different directions helping with proposals or internal initiatives.
There's so much diversity in what I do day-to-day as a consultant. Often it's attending meetings to contribute ideas about a project, sometimes it's doing the actual work of documentation and interviewing stakeholders.
I currently working in mining, within the IT department. I work in change management for Procurement as well as the coordination of the project management office, Audit activities and general delivery support.

Management Consulting
Founded in 2016, Escient is a business and digital consultancy firm with a purpose to help shape the future for organisations, people and planet.
The best thing about working at Escient is the culture and people. Right from the recruiting process to Day 1 to 6 months in, people were willing and open with their time, assistance and knowledge (which they have in spades). The culture is also unmatched with a passion to truly live out key values along with creative and fun social events. For both of these reasons I feel fully supported to perform my role and learn as much as I can.
A very supportive environment. I have been made to feel like an equal among all my colleagues despite my title as a graduate and have always felt like I have a voice and play an active role in the company
The graduate program is a great environment to learn and try new ideas or ways of working. The team that run it are super supportive and encouraging. There are also lots of initiatives going on within the company that new starters can get involved in if they wish (Diversity and Inclusion, RAP etc.) that make you feel connected to those in other regions. The Communities of Practice are also good forums for any issues or challenges you’re facing on client sites and just great for connecting with other people working in the same area as you but on other engagements.
The incredible opportunities that are given to graduates so early in their careers. Being able to take ownership of key deliverables (with the support of my colleagues) was a big confidence boost and also helped me learn more about my own skills and interests.
The people and mentoring that I got here from specific people was the best. As an introduction to the workplace and when you're still figuring out what is important to you and how you work, it has the foundations to transition you from university to working life very well. You're also very supported in your job, no matter the task.
Sometimes things are too easy - feels like I need more of a challenge
The worst thing about working at Escient is that there isn’t a large amount of opportunity to work on projects with International clients. As Escient continues to grow I believe they will gradually tap into that market and expand.
Given Escient was only started 8 years ago the size of the organization means there is a lot of change occurring at a very quick rate which can be frustrating to deal with at times.
Sometimes there are unrealistic expectations around capacity. Being a consulting firm, we are expected to work full-time for clients but also juggle internal initiatives and meetings, which can be difficult. It feels like if you say "no" to the internal meetings and support that it will impact your reputation within the company, so there's periods of high stress and long work days when you're trying to do it all.
The company is no longer a small-scale or start-up organization. It has been growing into a mid- size enterprise-based organization, hence, the transformation changes internally would require you to have a bit of patience to understand and embrace these changes.
