Culture at Nous Group

9.3
9.3 rating for Culture, based on 25 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
Nous Group has a non-hierarchical structure, allowing for collaborative and flexible work arrangements. Team members set their own hours and have the option to work from home. The support for staff is robust, ensuring a productive work environment. Regular casual events, like morning teas and drinks, help build team rapport. A yearly event, Nous Day, celebrates the team's work and reinforces the company's inclusive culture.

Nous is an excellent place to work. There is a great culture of self-management and excellence, which encourages people to do their best work in the way that is best for them.

The culture at Nous is a standout for every reason - it is not hierarchical, and I was surprised that my input and insight was valued from day one. And that observation is not a cliche - you are given quite a lot of creative freedom to solve problems in the projects you work on at Nous. It is a fun place to start work as someone in my mid twenties as well - there are many other people of similar age who you will get to socialize and work with, and everyone is kind and welcoming.

The organisation is flat and the culture encourages interacting with management across the spectrum of seniority. Management is highly sensitive to your physical and mental wellbeing. You are unlikely to receive work that is encumbers you or isn't of interest and they are respectful of commitments outside of work. Flexibility is unparalleled. The principles of self-management are truly embraced with nonexistent levels of micromanagement across the firm. The onus rests entirely on you to organise yourself and deliver on your role's responsibilities.

Everyone is very chill. As long as you are applying yourself, you are always given opportunities to grow and develop your skills in what is a flat hierarchy of responsibility.

I would say culture is the best thing about this firm. I'm on an incredibly complex and difficult project but it's been a great learning opportunity with the help of team members and leaders.

Interaction between all levels of people at all different experiences. You will be able to contribute to teams as a valued member and you will not often feel like you are looked down upon.

Flat structure, really amazing people

Culture is good. You are surrounded by other really motivated high-performing people and the company has a strong culture of two-way feedback. There are plenty of interesting after hours activities that are entirely optional. Cooperation is really strong. Employees are not compared to their peers, so there isn't a sense of competition, but rather a culture of lifting each other up. Personally, I am very motivated to affect positive change in the community. The company does a lot of really important, valuable work in very influential spaces. In terms of culture, I have really enjoyed being surrounded by other staff who are equally motivated in this regard.

Generally the office is very inclusive with lots of events during work time and out of work time. Generally there's a pretty flat structure but office culture is run by the coordinator and younger consultants/managers who are in office regularly There can be a challenge for those from diverse religious/ethnic backgrounds given after work events centered around drinking.

Fantastic structure. It is non-hierarchical which works very well. Everyone seems to get along very well and there are plenty of opportunities for socialisation

The company culture at Nous is fantastic. The hierarchy (top to bottom) is principals, directors, managers, senior consultants, consultants, grad consultants, and interns. However, everyone is super open and friendly and I've never felt intimidated by someone's seniority. At Nous I was really surprised about how much principals, and directors and managers, really value the input and ideas of grads. I've always felt encouraged to contribute and validated in my ideas and thinking, even if I don't have the full experience of someone more senior. I feel like every project has really had a team environment with good teamwork and cooperation. In the office, everyone is usually happy to stop for a brief chat in the kitchen or hallways, go grab a coffee or lunch, and really make the effort to meet new people and build connections. Nous also makes a big effort for everyone to connect outside of hours. During induction, Nous set up regular lunches and dinners, as well as out of hours activities (like mini golf) for people to connect. Every friday, Nous offices have a friday night drinks with alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, as well as snacks or pizza for people to catch up and socialise. Often if someone is leaving the company these Friday night drinks will be dedicated to them with speeches/songs etc. There are also other Nous organised events, such as pride marches, movie nights, comedy nights etc where colleagues are encouraged to participate and socialise.

Our whole company, but particularly our Canberra office has a positive culture. We often have pot luck lunches, and many people will hang around for friday night drinks and dinner, or get together on weekends. We have a flat hierarchy structure and an open office floorplan, which means that even the most junior staff are able to connect with the most senior.

positive, caring culture. Flat structure, where senior people are very approachable

Great sense of teamwork. Although there is a hierarchy in theory (with the split between Consultants, Senior Consultants, Directors and Principals), the sense of teamwork and collegiality makes it such that the hierarchy does not feel top-down. It is somewhat bottom up, with consultants given the opportunity to flex their skills, and learn on the job.

Flat structure where everyone's opinion is valued. Have the chance to work with bright minds across the organisation. Strong emphasis placed on culture and it shows, every day at work is fun.

The culture at Nous is a big deal. We work hard, support each other and try to find time to properly connect. Everyone tries to make time to get to know each other on a personal level but it isn't always possible due to the long work hours. We have Friday drinks and pot luck lunches. The hierarchy is quite flat at Nous. We have some extremely experienced and senior people working here but they will listen to our opinions and are happy to chat anytime.

Nous is not very hierarchical. We only have 4 levels within the business. Our project teams are structured (e.g. Project Director, Project Manager, Consultants) but outside of this, there is no hierarchy. You have a lot of responsibility from day dot. The culture is amazing - everyone is very supportive and we have a lot of fun along the way.

Self-managed is the most important factor of the culture. Everyone is encouraged to take responsibility for their own actions, their own career and their own projects. At the same time though everybody pulls as one, our shared bonus structure creates a sense of common team and teh organisation celebrates individual and group success well.
