Finance Graduate at Rheinmetall
Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) at The University of Queensland (UQ)
What's your job about?
The finance team at Rheinmetall consists of 3 subdivisions: controlling, projects, and accounting. As a graduate, you will get to experience the 3 different areas of the program. I am currently in the Accounting division, where I am learning the ins and outs of Accounts Payable (AP). AP has been a valuable starting point as I have started understanding the company and day-to-day dealings.
In addition, I have had the opportunity to travel from Brisbane to Melbourne to undergo preliminary training and meet the addition finance team that is located there.
What's your background?
Although I moved around a fair bit growing up, I spent most of my schooling years in Ballarat, Victoria. I graduated high school in 2006 and decided to join the military in 2009. I was fortunate enough to have many great experiences while I was in the RAAF, including the opportunity to commence my degree in 2014, which I completed part-time.
On completion of my degree in June 2019, I applied for a graduate position with Rheinmetall and started my new role within the company in late January 2020.
Could someone with a different background do your job?
Yes. My background was in logistics, with very limited knowledge outside my degree and no hands-on experience. With continual support, I believe this role would be possible for anyone who wishes to start a career in finance.
What's the coolest thing about your job?
As I have only been in this role for 3 weeks, the best feeling is when you complete something correctly or when you are able to research something to receive the desired result.
What are the limitations of your job?
While I have email and phone support, the person that is currently coaching me is based in Melbourne. If I require explanation, I can be stuck on a task until I receive feedback, which can still be confusing when you don’t completely know all the process.
