Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders at Cenitex
Cenitex is committed to increase the representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders People across the entire organisation.
Increasingly more important the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Stream has experienced genuine commitment and a large body of work from various stream members and staff across the organisation to drive the strategy in this area.
This is one of 6 of our D&I streams, the others being the Gender; Cultural; Disability; Intergenerational and LBGTQI+ streams.
Achievements
- Partnership with Koorie Heritage Trust to provide Aboriginal Cultural Competency training to Cenitex Staff.
- 2 half a day Aboriginal Cultural Competency training delivered by Koorie Heritage Trust to D&I Council and Aboriginal stream members.
- Cenitex Aboriginal Inclusion Action Plan drafted and ready for official consultation process.
- Engagement with The Torch Art Program and Procurement of 2 aboriginal artworks painted by Melissa Bell a proud Gunditjimara and Yorta Yorta woman from Cummeragunja.
- Indigenous Module from SBS Inclusion program made available to all staff.

- National Sorry Day - Reconciliation week.
Key Focus Areas
- Increase the representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders People across the entire organisation by identifying special measures roles.
- Aboriginal Cultural Competency training to be delivered by Koorie Heritage Trust to over the next 12 months.
- Engagement of an Aboriginal artist to paint key structural artefacts in the office to further create a culturally safe workplace.
- Purchase an Acknowledgement of Country plaque.
- Start the official consultation process for all staff to review and comment on Aboriginal Inclusion Action Plan (AIAP).
- Table the AIAP to the Diversity and Inclusion Council and ELT for endorsement and publish for all staff to access and action.
Key Challenges
- Keeping the momentum gained on establishing strong cultural awareness and cultural safety measures across the business.
- Embarking on active attraction strategies for Aboriginal staff for roles across the broader business.
